What Is Theranostics?

Theranostics involves the location and targeted radiation of cancer cells throughout the body. It’s a combination of the words “therapy” and “diagnostics,” which utilizes radioisotopes to first image a patient’s tumor for diagnostics and then therapeutically treat that tumor.

The Varian Edge Radio Surgery System

The Varian Edge Radio Surgery System, or the Edge, is a highly sophisticated, noninvasive machine that delivers very high precision radiation doses, often in a small number of treatment sessions. This machine plays a key role in theranostics by visualizing tumors in real time as well as guiding the delivery of highly focused radiation doses.

Cyclotrons and PET/CT

The radioactive isotope produced by the cyclotron is used to create radioactive tracer molecules that assist physicians and researchers in diagnosing, observing, and treating cancer.

Targeted Radionuclide Therapy

Targeted Radionuclide Therapy is a variation of targeted treatment that delivers doses of radiation directly to malignant tumors.
